Somewhere inside the book "101 Essays that will change the way you think" from Brianna Wiest, I found a beautiful essay called "Why does a soul want a body?", and ever since I read it i couldn't stop thinking about it.
It's a simple thought , a simple question... and its amazing how at the same time it's such a deep reflection; The essay talks about thinking why something so eternal and inmortal as our soul, needs a vessel so finite and mortal as our body.
In the essay Brianna talks about experiences that sometimes we dont really stop to appreciate but that if we did , we would realize how beautiful they are.
It got me thinking about my own situation and so i made a list of things that make my soul to need a body.
Why does my soul need a body?...
To feel the ocean breeze on my face during summer afternoons.
To enjoy a laugh attack with my friends while spending the day together.
To take a long and slow walk with my dog in the morning while listening to the silence of the early morning, the birds chirping and the cool morning wind.
To hear to the voices of my family members and feel that warmth and safety feeling during family time.
To see sunsets at the beach.
To feel the dopamine rush after a morning run or training.
To feel the anticipation and nervousness when going on a first date with someone I really like.
To sing outloud my favourite songs while driving on a roadtrip with close friends.
To feel the tears on my throath and the goosebumps every time i watch those scenes from my favourite movies.
To feel the excitement when I recieve a long awaited message.
To taste a delicious "carnita asada" with friends .
To fall in love.
To binge watch a tv show with special persons .
To hear the wind rushing through the leaves of the trees while reading a book in the afternoon.
To see the excitemente and happines of my dog everytime I come back from work.
To feel the warmth and peace when hugging loved ones.
Im pretty sure the list will grow larger with every day that I get to think about it, but I guess the answer is actually as simple as the question itself, I think my soul need a body to live, or in other words to experience life, because what is life but the little things we experience everyday that spark joy in our days and the people we have the bliss to call loved ones.
Its really beautiful when you think about it, the soul is so eternal and perfect, but at the same time it needs an imperfect vessel to experience the most beautiful things we will ever get the chance to experience in our existence.
To wrap up im going to leave a quote from the essay, because who can best describe the idea than the author herself.
"If healing is just acknowledging pain, then maybe living is just acknowledging life"
